Arturo Di Modica first conceived of the Charging Bull as a way to celebrate the can-do spirit of America and especially New York, where people from all other the world could come regardless of their origin or circumstances, and through determination and hard work overcome every obstacle to become successful. It’s this symbol of virility and courage that Arturo saw as the perfect antidote to the Wall Street crash of 1986.

Arturo worked on the now world-famous Charging Bull for over two years at his studio on Crosby Street in the Soho district of Manhattan. It was his most ambitious and massive work of sculpture to date, so large that the Bull had to be cast in separate bronze pieces and then laboriously welded together and hand finished. Once completed at the end of 1989, it weighed over three and a half tons and measured 18 feet long.

Of course, only one place would do for this gift of encouragement to New York and the world.

In the early morning hours of Friday, December 15, 1989, Arturo with a few friends dropped the Charging Bull on Broad Street right in front of the New York Stock Exchange. The previous night he’d gone to the location with a chronometer to check – noting that every 5 – 6 minutes the police patrol would come by, so he saw he’d have to drop the bull and get away within 4 ½ minutes. But on the actual morning of the operation, Arturo and his crew discovered that during the day the NYSE had installed a large Christmas tree, blocking the way. Arturo couldn’t even turn the truck around. So on the spot Arturo decided to place the Charging Bull right under the tree, as a gigantic Christmas present for the City and the World. The next day the Charging Bull was news all around the world, and enormous crowds of excited onlookers and media surrounded the mysterious sculpture that had come from no one knew where.

The sculpture was removed at the end of the day by the NYSE, but thanks to then Parks Commissioner Henry Stern, Mayor Ed Koch and Arturo Piccolo of the Bowling Green Association, a permanent home was found for the Charging Bull close by at Bowling Green. The Charging Bull stands there to this day, visited by millions of tourists, a talisman for Wall Street traders, and a source of pride for all New York City residents.

Their families all hail from the town Lercara Friddi, Sicily in the Provence of Palrermo in Italy ... Lucciano was born there in 1897 and immigrated with his parents in 1907 to New York and the United States. Sinatra's father Martino Sinatra was born in there in 1892 and his parents immigrated to New York in 1903 ... Bellino's maternal grandparents Josephina and Philipo Bellino were born in Lercara Friddi and immigrated to the United States to New York City in 1904, and later settled in the Italian Conclave of Lodi, New Jersey where Daniel's grandfather set up a Shoemaker shop on Main Street ... Take note that Sinatra's grandfather was also a shoemaker in Lercara Friddi, and it is certain the these two grandfathers must have known each other in the small Sicilian town.

In the past it was an important mining center, the only one in the province of Palermo where sulfur was excavated. Charles "Lucky" Luciano, born Salvatore Lucania November 24, 1897 – January 26, 1962) was an Italian-American mobster and Crime Boss. Luciano is considered the father of modern organized crime in the United States for the establishment of the first Commission. He was the first official boss of the modern Genovese crime family. He was, along with his associates instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate in the United States. Luciano was tried and successfully convicted for compulsory prostitution in 1936 after years of investigation by District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey. Luciano was given a thirty-year prison sentence, but was allowed to live his life freely outside the United States when he struck a deal with the government during World War II while still imprisoned.

KEEF’S FAVORITE SHEPHERD’S PIE

Yes Keef, as in Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, the World’s Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band ever! But you know that. This is the way Keith likes his Shepherds Pie, his SHEPHERD'S PIE Recipe can be found in THE BADASS COOKBOOK ... And it's printed here. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

3 pounds Potatoes, peeled and diced

1 tablespoon Butter

Salt & Pepper to taste

2 large Onions, chopped

2 pounds Ground Beef

2 large Carrots, grated

2 – 12 oz. cans Beef Broth

5 tablespoons water

1 tablespoon Cornstarch

1.  Put potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring the water to the boil. Lower to a simmer and cook the potatoes until tender, about 8 minutes.

2.  Drain potatoes once cooked.

3. Put cooked, drained potatoes in a large mixing bowl with the butter and season with salt and black pepper. Mash potatoes with a potato - masher or whip with an electric mixer. If using a

hand potato-masher, mash potatoes with masher, then mix with a wooden spoon until nicely whipped.

4. Heat a large frying-pan. Add 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add ground-beef, cook over medium heat for 4 minutes. Add onions, continue cooking for minutes on high heat. Lower heat to low flame and cook 4 minutes more.

5. Add carrots and beef broth to pan. Mix cornstarch with water and add to pan. Cook over low flame for 8 minutes.

6.  Add peas to pan, cook for 1 minute.

7. Pour Beef Mixture into a glass or ceramic baking dish. Evenly top beef with the mashed potatoes.

8. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 12 minutes, then place under the boiler until potatoes get nicely browned. Take care not to burn the potatoes once they are under the broiler.

9.  Let cool slightly for 3 minutes and serve.

Well, I just keep loving the Stones more and more. I've always loved The Rolling Stones, ever since they came out with Satisfaction in 1965 .. But back then, I din't love The Rolling Stones nearly as much as I do now. No, I liked them a lot, but didn't think and delve into them the way I do now. Well, it's simple, for one, they didn't have the body of work they do now. Well that they had by 1981, with their last great album Tattoo You. Back in 65 Start Me Up, Bitch, Can You Hear me Knocking and other great Stones tunes hadn't been made yet. But that's not really the main reasons that I wasn't so fanatical about The Rolling Stones the way I am now. Back then there were tons and tons of other great musical artist, not like the current day stock of music in 2013 and the past 15 years or so, just mostly a bunch of Shit. The music these days Sucks. It's almost none existent  except for a very few good artists like Cee Lo Green and Alicia Keys. Yes today "The Music Sucks" and all we have are great bands of the past, like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Supremes, all the Motown and R&B Greats, Rock-n-Roll Greats, Solo Artists, Pop Music and on and on. Yes, back in 1965, all through the 6o's and 70's and in to the 80s and even 90's you had many great Musical Artists; Led Zeppelin, The Temptations  Stevie Wonder, The Stylistics, Elvis, too many to name.

What ever happened to music? What happened to Rock and Roll? The music today "Sucks" no good artists, no great songs like before, the 60s, 70s, and 80s ... What the hell happened? Well, Shitty Crap Rap happened. Kids these days don't know any better, they listen to and "Like Shit" it's unavailable  The kids these days have "Horrible Taste" in music, they like and except Crap and think it's good, "Crap Rap." What is the World coming to? Thank God for The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, the R&B Classic Rock, rock-N-Roll, and all the Great music produced by the great artists from 1960 to the early 1990's. Great music was made, it was recorded and we have it to listen to now in times of nothing good a "Famine of Music" good music that is, great music, they don't make it any more. Why? I'm mystified!

HOW To LOVE THE STONES MORE  Yes Boys and Girls, in the Age of Shit Music, which is Now and Has Been for 15 Years or so, All we have are The Stones, Classic Rock, Rock-N-Roll, R&B and The Great Musical Acts of The Past; 60s 70s 80s ... But we do have it, Let's Thank God .. We Can listen to our Great Vinyl Records, Cassettes, CDs, maybe even 8-Tracks ... Cool . We can even listen to MP3s, just as long as they're Great Recordings of The Stones, Classic Rock, R&B and  "No CRAP RAP"  Read books like Keith Richards "Life" one of numerous biography on Mick, or books on the Stones, Surf the net for Stones, Keef, or Mick stories. Let's not forget Charlie, and Ronnie Wood is Super Cool. Now there's a biography I gotta read, Ronnie Wood. And I can't wait to see Charlie Is My Darling. I hear it's Great. I have numerous books on The Rolling Stones and Youtube? Youtube is Awesome! You can see (and hear) The Stones and all The R&B and Rock Greats anytime you want, and almost any performance. There's a lot out there Thank God again and we don't have to listen to The Rap Crap and All The Shitty Music they make in 2012, 2013 and the past 15 Years .. No Need! We're Just Not Gonna Take It! Sorry if there are so many with Bad taste Out There. They Have Great Music and Great Bands Like The Stones, led Zeppelin, The Who and more and they insist on listening to Shit. They actually like it, support it an perpetuate the Crap. Well, you Have The Stones so Enjoy. Look at Beast of Burden on this site, or Ronnie talking about his Guitars, and Mick going to Elton Johns party and what not. The Rolling Stones, they're Great, They are endless, you never tire of them. They're The Stones !!!!! ROCK ON !!!!
