Sinatra: The Main Event was an ABC musical television special starring Frank Sinatrabroadcast on October 13, 1974. The special documents a concert given by Sinatra at Madison Square Garden in New York City, in which Sinatra is accompanied by the Woody Herman band, and introduced by Howard Cosell.

The concert that was broadcast, was the last of a series of six that Sinatra gave at Madison Square Garden in October 1974, the audio from the concerts had also been taped and the highlights would be released as The Main Event – Live. The saxophonist Jerry Doidgson who performed on the concerts felt that the televised performance wasn't as strong as the others as Sinatra's natural pacing of the concert was disrupted by the mechanisms of television production.

“So, there I was, age 44. I was still dunking french fries at Brasserie Les Halles, which I thought was a pretty good gig at the time.

But, there was this little free paper they gave out on corners in a little box called The New York Press. I thought, I’m going to write something that will entertain other cooks, maybe I’ll get a hundred bucks, and my fry cook will find this funny. So, I wrote that first piece, that first version of [Kitchen Confidential] with the intention of being published by the New York Press and making 100 bucks, and being a hero to a few fry cooks in New York.

I wrote it and I sent it to The New York Press… So, every week I’d run to the corner. ‘Oh, I’m gonna be in the free paper!’ and I wasn’t in there. And, in a moment of frustration and possible inebriation, I mentioned this to my mom who said, ‘Well, you should send it to The New Yorker. I know somebody there. They’ll read it.’ And I’m thinking, what is the statistical likelihood ever, even if you’re represented? There’s no chance. Ever.

Out of alcohol-fueled hubris and on the insistence of my mom, I stuffed a copy, a print of this thing I’d written into an envelope and sent it off to The New Yorker, and thought that’s the last I will ever hear of this. Then, a month and a half later, the kitchen phone rings, and it’s David Remnick, the publisher from The New Yorker saying we’d like to run this piece.

And when it ran, it transformed my life within two days... Everything changed. Everything. From that point on.”

 BUFFALO WINGS ORIGINAL RECIPE  

 

 

 After Burgers and Pizza, these Buffalo Chicken Wings may very well be America’s 3^rd most popular dish. And guess what? They’re not just American, they’re Italian American Teressa Bellissimo one night at her families Anchor Bar in Buffalo New York. Legend has it that Teressa’s son Dom was hanging out at the bar one night with his buddy’s. The guys were hungry so Mamma Bellissimo whipped up a little snack for the boys. Teressa fried up some wings, made a little hot sauce and coated the wings with them. And served them to the boys. They went nuts they loved them. They started serving them as a free at the bar for the bar customers. It was just a matter of weeks before all of Buffalo found out about these tasty wings. They became famous almost over night, whereby the Bellissimo’s stopped serving them for free at the bar and put them on the menu. The Bellissimo’s served Italian Food at their Anchor Bar, and the Italian Food was quite special. However the Bellisimo’s tasty Chicken Wings quickly out sold all the regular Italian Specialty Dishes and the Bellissimo’s Wings became the number 1 best seller on the menu. Not only that, but Teressa’s Italian-American created ChickenWings became uber famous all over America and subsequently all over the World. That’s Italian, “Italian-American.”   

SUPER SUNDAY !!! 

BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS 

 

 RECIPE : 

 

Ingredients: 

 

 36 chicken wing pieces(one wing makes 2 pieces -  the "flat" and drum seperated

 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon salt 

1 cup all-purpose flour 

1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar 

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder 

1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 

1 teaspoon Tabasco Sauce

6 tablespoons Frank’s Hot Sauce (or other) 

6 tablespoons unsalted Butter or Margarine 

 

Celery Sticks 

 

1 bottle of Blue Cheese Dressing 

 

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. 

Cut whole wings into two pieces at the joint. 

 

In a bowl toss the wings with the oil, and salt. Place chicken wings into a large plastic shopping bag, and add the flour. Shake to coat evenly. 

 

 

Remove wings from the bag, shaking off excess flour, and spread out evenly on oiled foil-lined baking pan(s). Do not crowd. Bake for about 20 minutes, turn the wings over, and cook another 20 minutes, or until the wings are cooked through and browned. 

While the Wings are baking, mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a pan, and cook over low heat for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

 

After the Wings are cooked, remove from oven. 

 

Place wings in a large bowl and pour sauce over wings to coat. Mix thoroughly. 

 

Serve with Blue Cheese Dressing and fresh Celery Spears.

I got lost in VENICE at Night. It was my first night there and my first trip ever to Europe. I was a young man of 23 and relatively new in my travel experience, how to get around and what to do. Yes I got lost and the Magical Maze, The Labyrinth that is Venice, with its winding streets, many bridges and narrow alleyways.

I learned a very important travel lesson that night. One of the first things you should ever do as you are in a new city and check into your hotel. While you're at the desk, make sure to take a couple Business Cards of the hotel. Put one in your wallet or purse immediately, and put another in one of your pockets. If you ever get lost, you can give it to a Taxi Driver (Not in Venice though) and tell him to go here.

Yes, I got lost in Venice. I didn't feel it at the time, but it's a quite Wonderful thing to do, getting Lost in Venice.

I found this wonderful little Hotel in 1995, on my special trip to Explore the BACARI (Venetian Wine Bars) of VENICE. I had read a tiny little article about them in the New York Times that peeked my interest and inspired me to open one in New York. I book a trip for 8 days in Venice to explore, feel, experience and find out everything I could about the Wine Bars of Venice (Bacari). And I did just that. With the knowledge of that trip and my many years experience in the restaurant business in New York, I made a business plan, found a partner to join me, and I created the First Ever Bacaro in The United States, called BAR CICHETTI in New York's Greenwich Village. Basta !
